FAQ
At Covenant, we love getting questions from prospective students and family. We want you to be as fully informed as possible in order to help you decide whether a Covenant College education is right for you.
On this page we present some basic questions and answers about Covenant. If you have questions that aren't answered in our FAQs, please don't hesitate to call us at 888.451.2683, email info@covenant.edu, or fill out our Request for Information form.
The Admission Process
The average academic profile for Covenant freshmen is listed on the Average Academic Profile page. While this is the average academic profile that characterizes our student body, potential applicants should keep in mind that we consider every application on an individual basis. Transfer applicants are considered in light of this academic profile, as well as academic performance in any college-level coursework. Anyone interested in a Covenant College education should apply.
You must submit a completed application for admission (usually completed online), a $35 application fee, a one- to two-page personal testimony, your high school transcript, standardized test scores (see test score policy), completed academic reference and christian faith reference forms, and if you’re transferring from another college or university, your college transcript.
Throughout the academic year, Covenant College has two specific entry points for admission: early action and regular decision. Early action is for students who wish to receive an early, non-binding admissions decision. The application deadline for Early Action is November 15, and applicants will receive an admissions decision by December 15. Regular decision is for students who submit their application after November 15 or who did not receive a decision in the early action review process. The application deadline for regular decision is March 1 and applicants who apply through this process will receive a decision by March 15.
After March 1, the admissions office will begin accepting applications on a rolling basis and priority for admission will be given to students who applied to Covenant College by the February 1 regular decision date.
If you are applying for a particular scholarship with a November 15 deadline, your application for admission must also be complete by November 15.
Financial Assistance
Yes. In fact, more than 90 percent of our students receive assistance in the form of scholarships, grants, student loans, and/or student employment programs.
Two important first steps are to complete Covenant’s application for admission and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (www.fafsa.ed.gov). Also, visit our scholarships section to learn about our competitive scholarships and corresponding application deadlines.
We offer academic, leadership, and music scholarships. Particular scholarships that must be applied for include the Maclellan Scholarship, President's Scholarship, and Wilberforce Scholarship.
Academics
At Covenant, why you learn something is every bit as important as what you learn. Here, you will learn to see God in every facet of your life, and you will be personally taught by acclaimed professors who could teach virtually anywhere in the world and choose to be here.
We have a wide range of majors, minors, and pre-professional programs that span the spectrum of academic disciplines. Our most popular majors include English, history, education, business, and psychology.
Our current U.S. News ranking is #147 National Liberal Arts College, one of only 5 CCCU colleges with that distinction, and the only one in the Southeast. U.S. News also ranks Covenant #52 Top Performers in Social Mobility.
The People
Don’t let the fact that they come from such institutions as Harvard, Oxford, Stanford, and Yale give you the wrong impression. As knowledgeable and respected as our professors are, they enjoy nothing more than getting to know their students on a personal level. In fact, our student-to-faculty ratio is 12:1.
Covenant has over 800 students who came from 48 states as well as 23 countries around the world this past year. The male/female ratio is 47:53, and the incoming freshman GPA range (middle 50%) is 3.39-3.96.
Most of our first-year students actually make close friends before classes even begin. Our orientation program is a great way for you to get to know our campus, our people, and your fellow classmates. Along with that, student clubs, Scots games, intramurals, campus events, and simply living in the residence halls are all great ways to make new friends.
The Place
Lookout Mountain is in northern Georgia, just 10 minutes from Chattanooga, Tennessee. The city of Lookout Mountain has a population of just over 1,600. So, our setting is ideal in that it is in a small, caring community, with close proximity to the vibrant city of Chattanooga.
Our 400-acre campus sits atop Lookout Mountain and provides beautiful views of the Smoky Mountains, Chattanooga, and seven states. Our campus is growing and has an abundance of green space so you can enjoy the scenic location.
Play for or cheer on any of our 13 Scots varsity teams. Work out in Ashe Activity Center. Lead a student club. Join an intramural team. Compete in the Mountain Affair talent show. Take part in a discipleship small group. Attend chapel. Perform in a musical. Watch a movie with friends. Take a hike on one of our many trails. And that’s without ever leaving campus!
Rock climbing. Mountain biking. Hiking to Cloudland Canyon waterfalls. Cycling. Camping. And when you’ve had your fill of the outdoors, Chattanooga’s revitalized downtown, music scene, cultural offerings, and leisure activities are just 10 minutes away. Visit the Tennessee Aquarium. Catch a concert. Shop at Hamilton Place Mall. Dine at a new restaurant. Dress up for a night at the Tivoli Theatre.
