Why You Should Apply to Covenant by Nov 15
During the chaos and all the “lasts” of senior year, the college application process might feel daunting—but it is extremely important to prioritize applying by the early application due date! Many students are unaware of, or even intimidated by, the idea of turning in a college application early. However, at Covenant College, there are several benefits to meeting the early action deadline. The regular decision date for Covenant College is March 1, but the early action deadline is November 15.
Early Action, Not Early Decision
Most important to note, the early action application is not an early decision. Rather, the November 15 date is a non-binding admissions decision, meaning you don’t have to be 100% committed to Covenant. To help in the decision making, if you apply by the early action deadline, you will receive your admissions decision by early December, which is far earlier than usual admissions results. However, it is important to keep in mind that you do not have to make your final enrollment decision until May 1.
While some students might view this early action as prohibiting their college decisions, it can facilitate future decisions for multiple reasons. Senior year only gets busier for many high school students, so getting the application done by this date not only frees up time in general but will also give you more time to think about your college decision and not feel rushed.
Competitive Scholarships
The early action is also helpful for funding your college education since the early action deadline is also the competitive scholarship deadline. Covenant offers several competitive scholarships that range from smaller amounts such as $5000 to full tuition in the case of the Maclellan Scholars Program.
Once you submit your admissions application, you may be eligible to apply for various competitive scholarships, but note that each scholarship has a slightly different criteria. If you are applying to Covenant on the Common App, make sure you get the general application submitted a few days before the deadline in order to receive access to the competitive scholarship application.
Benefits of Being an Early Bird
If a student completes the early action application and gets an acceptance letter in December, there are continued benefits to being an early bird. One example of this is priority housing. Students who have received their admissions decision and commit by paying their enrollment deposit by February 15 will be on the top of the list for their choice of residence hall.
Beyond receiving acceptance letters early and competitive scholarship eligibility, early application will give you extra time to pray over your decision, talk to mentors, schedule campus visits, learn all you need to know about Covenant, and focus on finishing your senior year well.
