An Overview of Covenant’s Residence Halls

Living at a residential college provides students with the opportunity to make campus feel like home. At Covenant, residence life is one of the most cherished traditions students will experience during their time on campus. There are four Covenant College residence halls: Maclellan/Rymer, Andreas, Founders, and Carter. Each dorm contains distinct layouts and events that surround residents with a sense of community and belonging.

On The Hall

Each residence hall layout contains different features to suit the preferences of residents. Maclellan and Andreas both feature suite-style rooms. In Mac, two bedrooms share a bathroom and a study room. In Andreas, two bedrooms are connected by a bathroom. Carter Hall's historic dorm rooms come in varying sizes, each with its own bathroom, while Founders features bedrooms and a shared community bathroom on each floor. Among the residence halls, room sizes range from 2-person to 4-person bedrooms. Once students move in, they are encouraged to make their dorm room feel like home with personal belongings and decorations. Additionally, each dorm makes space for continued connection with common rooms, lobbies, and shared spaces for studying and socializing.

Events and Traditions

Residents participate in each building’s annual events and traditions. Mac residents record short films for Mac Movie, Andreas residents choreograph dances for Andreas Lip Sync Battle, and halls in Founders create imaginative videos for Founders Music Video. The finished products are shared in the chapel for all students to attend, complete with a panel of judges, audience votes, and awards for the winning halls.

There are also multiple walk-through events where residents decorate their dorm according to a specific theme for students across campus to tour. Carter residents deck the halls with Christmas decorations each holiday season, while Founders and Andreas residents decorate their halls according to different imaginative themes each year.

In addition to campus wide events, each dorm building has its own traditions, passed down year after year, including themed movie nights, Day of Prayer outings, and hall dates.

Community

By far, the most beloved aspect of dorm life at Covenant College is community. Living in a residence hall provides opportunities for connection that are nearly impossible to replicate anywhere else. Each dorm building includes separate men and women’s halls with residents ranging from freshmen to seniors, providing an integrated environment to build strong relationships with peers outside the classroom. Because students from all four years reside in the same dorms, upperclassmen mentor and support underclassmen. Sharing space with others will provide opportunities to grow and love selflessly. Planning and attending events, worshiping together at Prayer and Praise, and weekly hall dinners facilitate vulnerability and closeness.

Choosing dorm life at Covenant means stepping into deeper relationships with your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ amidst the challenges and immense joys of navigating college and adulthood.

No matter which dorm you choose, you will have the chance to engage in meaningful conversations and rich traditions. The events and layouts of each residence hall make space for what is most important about Covenant’s residential campus: the opportunity to know and be known in Christ-centered community.

If the layout, traditions, or community of a particular residence hall are most exciting to you, we encourage students to deposit by February 15th in order to receive priority housing assignments. Though placement is not guaranteed, there will be more options available for those who deposit soon!
